CERO01 — Joela Rivera and Qween Jean

CERO01 — Joela Rivera and Qween Jean

Our inaugural issue for Spring 2021 spans all six inhabited continents to spotlight over two dozen young activists working to effect change on a range of issues, including Joela Rivera and Qween Jean, the organizers of the year-old weekly Stonewall Protests for Black trans lives, who were photographed for one of our four covers by Nan Goldin. Profiles on Thuso Mbedu, the breakout star of Barry Jenkins's The Underground Railroad, and the soulful musician Cautious Clay appear alongside photography projects from Anthony Cotsifas and Nana Yaw Oduro and a fashion story by Hanna Tveite and Melissa Levy starring Guinevere van Seenus. Also inside, our food editor Flynn McGarry shares his enticing arrangements combining food and flowers, while our poetry editor Ocean Vuong kicks off our series of original prose with a new work, both of them part of an issue that celebrates creativity and passion in all their forms.

All net proceeds from the sales of this cover will be donated to Black Trans Liberation.
