Cero Collective Celebrates the Launch of INDIGiQUEER
As Pride Month drew to a close, Brooklyn queer haven The Rosemont played host to Cero Collective’s first-ever Pride celebration to help launch INDIGiQUEER, a new nonprofit creative alliance founded by Indigenous Xicano climate activist Thómas Lopez Jr this year. Previously involved in activism and advocacy challenging the Dakota Access Pipeline and other fossil fuel projects, Lopez was integral to the facilitation of TOKALA, a climate justice photography project presented at The Shed by Cero Collective and Future Coalition last September to great success. Fresh off the heels of that experience and the community-building it incubated, Lopez founded INDIGiQUEER to foster further networks of access and funding for QTBIPOC creatives across the United States.
In theme with INDIGiQUEER and Cero Collective’s shared values, the evening featured music and entertainment by some of Brooklyn nightlife’s brightest. DJs Maxwell Vice and Stefan Daniel curated a high-energy soundscape while local drag artists Bermuda, Magenta, and Bobby LeMaire lit up the stage with memorable performances incorporating acrobatics, lip-syncing, and pure unfettered entertainment. Join us in the festivities through these stills by one of New York’s most prolific nightlife photographers, Mark Minton.
