Celebrating Georgina Pazcoguin's Next Step
Earlier this month, Cero Collective helped Georgina Pazcoguin celebrate the next step in her career as she retired from New York City Ballet after over twenty years of dancing. Besides her vivid performing, Pazcoguin, who spoke at our panel on diversity in ballet in January, was instrumental to the company by encouraging the re-choreographing of Balanchine's Nutcracker to reimagine its racist national dances as part of her work as a cofounder of Final Bow for Yellowface, now Gold Standard Arts, which focuses on increasing AAPI representation in dance.
As she moves offstage to take on a producer role for the first time in this summer's coming revival of Here Lies Love, the David Byrne and Fatboy Slim musical about Imelda Marcos, the half-Filipino artist brought together the dance and theater communities for a Sunday-afternoon cocktail reception at the Times Square Edition that transitioned into a late-night dance party at Pebble Bar. Guests including Steve Buscemi, Zac Posen, Harrison Ball, Teresa Reichlen, Phil Chan, Tyler Angle, Taylor Stanley, and Megan LeCrone joined us to toast Pazcoguin's groundbreaking career as a ballerina and the work she will continue to do in the years to come to increase representation in the arts.
